Located at mile 16,Jalan Ulu Oya, Sibu outside the Central Business District areas of S1Bu and will open for workship on 5th November 2009. The design concept of this temple is Chinese Cultural & religion and 4 separate building with huge halls. Very impressively landscaped with trees from India, fish pond and most of the building decorative items are from mainland China. It's a must visit place of attraction in S1bu. 2. Sibu Eng Ann Tua Peh Kong Temple
(after World War 2)

3. The Present.

Besides the above Chinese Temples (biggest and Oldest), S1BU had a few more big & small Chinese Temples and the ones which worth visiting like the one mentioned below...the theme Chinese Temple ("The Tiger Emperor Temple") and other 3 more big Chinese Temples ("Tan Hua Fu"," Ba Wan Kun" & "Miew Lee Tang") around in the Central Town District and out skirt areas. The Temples can be said to be quite a big one especially its size and the design is traditional Chinese. It's not cheap to build temples especially all the decor are from aboard and cost of building these temple & landscape might run into millions (Ringgit Malaysia)

THE TIGER EMPEROR TEMPLE.

This is a very special temple and the theme of this temple is "Tiger", the Tiger God. Located at the junction of Jalan Bukit Aup and Jalan Teku, Sibu and the shape of the building Temple is just like a cave. You can find Huge statue of Tiger dressed in the ancient warrior costume and about 20 feet high each . It's awesome and scary, too. I think it's the only themed Temple in S1BU. Got a few pics to share with You.

With all these interesting Temples and maybe the State Tourism board or travel agencies can organise a small Religion Tourism tour in S1BU.

The Number 1 Event in S1BU

Borneo Cultural Festival

The Borneo Cultural Festival had been around in S1Bu for nearly 9 to 10 years (believe or not?) It started from a small scale to the present a little bit of International Standard (?) and from observations, only a handful of Tourists were around during this event even though it's the holiday season in their homeland. Most of those coming for this event or festival were the locals from the lower & upper basin of Rejang, a few performers from Overseas, organisers from outside S1BU. Those benefited during this event were those coffee shop owners , budget hotels around the vicinity of this function. Normally some of the coffee shops closed about 8.00 pm and with these function going on, some of the coffee shop closed at about 12.00 am to 1.00am. I'm sure that these coffeeshop owners are very happy especially this event or function is round the corner.

The 2nd Borneo Tattoo Convention 2007.
(S1Bu Number 1 Event)

Kuching had Rain Forest World Music Festival, Miri had World Jazz Festival and they are having the same theme....Music. What's S1BU have ? S1Bu had music, dances and mixtures of all (?) .There is one event or function which had a great potential to develop into a world class type of event. The theme is "Art". What's? What art ? Body Arts? It's Tattoo. Eventhough, the 2nd Borneo International Tattoo Convention had long passed and I still consider it's still the number 1 event in S1BU . The 2nd Borneo International Tattoo Convention was held in SIBU at Sibu Municipal Council prized recreation park at Taman Jubilee or Jubilee Park , Jalan Bukit Aup, Sibu. A few minutes drive from the Sibu Town.

This event or function was held in year 2007 and it's supposed to be a once in two(2) year event. It's due now. It had been observed that the tourist turn up at this venue is rather good than most of the events in Sibu. The response from locals was rather lukewarm. Some said Tattoo associated with bad hats or gangsterism. Friends from outside were interested and very keen to come if there is a 3rd Convention. I do not know whether anyone had notice in the national tabloid about one Singaporean, Miss Daphne Ang Ming Li , a nasty Gymnast and she was here with her friends during this convention. She took a few pictures of her & friends in this Convention venue. Who is she? Visit the website http://www.gutteruncensored.com. I very sure that the website of http://www.borneotattooconvention.com/ had quite good visitors hits. Visit this site for the information of the 2nd Borneo International Tattoo Convention organised by Sibu Municipal Council, Sibu.

The photos below tell you the story.....and if not enough , more photos can be view at http://borneotattooconvention.com/gallery/index6.html. Yes, this number 1 event was organised by Sibu Municipal Council under organizing chairman of Cr. Robert Lau Hui Yew.

A very daring try, Cr Robert !

The Biggest Market in Sarawak.

Sibu Central Market is the biggest market in Sarawak which has about a thousand and seventy (1071) over stalls , lockup shops (new wing of the market ) at the multistory car park and include a wet market & weekend /day Tamu . These stalls includes the cooked food, merchandise , groceries, sweet & candies, local produces, cake and selling misc. goods.

A little bit of history of this Market..this market was constructed in year 1994 and completed in year 1996. It's a two (2)& half storey high building and it's about 13 years already. Can say this market is 4 or 5 in 1 market. Why? Because this market was used to resettle the old market of Lembangan or jungle produce market (present site of Sibu Central Market), Channal Road Market (present site of Sibu Central Market), the old Market road Market, Sg. Bakong Market, Sukun Market , Palace theatre Car park Market and mobile street stalls hawkers of the khoo Peng Loong road (riverside) , side & backlanes in Central Town Areas. Most of the stalls at the ground floor are open stalls and the first floor is the Cooked Food & Drink Stall as well as the Merchandise Stalls.

This central market is so unique that it's a must visit place for tourist and understand that quite a few big brother local authorities from Sarawak as well as from peninsular states do visit this market on their study tour. Isn't that Sibu Boleh? There are a few items or produce which is not indigenous but it is well sort by visitors from outside. What are they?

They are the dried Shrimp and salted "turbok" fish. A kilo of the good dried shrimp might cost about Ringgit Malaysia Sixty (RM 60) over. A very good item for present to oversea friend.

Be sure to drop in this Market during your next visit to S1BU.

The Biggest Town Square in Sarawak.

Sibu Town Square is the largest town square in Sarawak (Malaysia ?)and if not mistaken, it's biggest in Malaysia. The total areas of whole Square is roughly about 20 acres or a little more if fully completed. As compared to two (2) of the world famous Squares -The Red Square in Central Moscow and The Tianamen Square, central Beijing in the acreages, Surprisingly, Sibu Town Square is bigger than the Red Square (18 acres .....source: Britianica concise Encyclopedia) ) but only 1/5 the size of Tianamen Square (100 acres.....source: wikipedia). A Sibu Boleh!

Every year Sibu Municipal Council organized the Borneo Cultural Festival in this Town Square during month of July and the town square had served famous people like VVIP Our King, Singer like Datuk Siti Norhaliza, Chief Minister, federal & State Ministers.

Sibu Ripley's believe it or not....they said that the late Altantuya was here with the Mongolian troupe during one of the previous Borneo Cultural Festival as the translator (?).Really would like to get a copy of the pix to prove her presence here at the town Square.

This town square is quite well patronized and a place for recreation & functions. Thank God for this Town Square. Oh, yes, this year the National Chinese Cultural Festival will be held next month in this Town Square and the Borneo Cultural Festival will follow right after this National festival. All are most welcome.

The Highest Fish Pond in S1BU.

Someone might think that I'm boasting and this fish pond is very simple "KOI" fish pond built in a small space above 200-300 feet in S1BU which can be accessible to general public or people . It really takes a lot of hard work and pains to build this pond and maintained it. Quite a few people had seen it but they never had a thought that it's the highest fish pond in S1BU. Where? Let me show you the pix of it.

"Wisma Sanyan" or Sanyan Building is the tallest building in S1BU (the East Malaysian State of Sarawak). It's a 28 storey high building. Lower floors are the shopping mall , while the upper floors you can find the Government Offices and the corporate office of the Sanyan as well as the associated RH group of Company.

Seeing is believing and Come & See if this is the number 1 in S1BU.(?)

The Longest River in Malaysia.

The Rejang River or the Mighty Rejang is the longest river in Malaysia and some said is about 5++ KM and other said is about 760 KM from the Iran Mountain in the interior. S1BU is proud to be associated with the mighty giant and is about 60 KM from the mouth of this river.A lot of people and big organisations depended on her for their livelihood and one sad thing, the condition of the river water is not the same as in the 50s. Ask the avid anglers , they will tell you that the fishes or prawns in this river is getting less. Why? But, one thing for sure, it's still the longest river in Malaysia. Isn't it the number 1?
