Sibu Central Market is the biggest market in Sarawak which has about a thousand and seventy (1071) over stalls , lockup shops (new wing of the market ) at the multistory car park and include a wet market & weekend /day Tamu . These stalls includes the cooked food, merchandise , groceries, sweet & candies, local produces, cake and selling misc. goods.

A little bit of history of this Market..this market was constructed in year 1994 and completed in year 1996. It's a two (2)& half storey high building and it's about 13 years already. Can say this market is 4 or 5 in 1 market. Why? Because this market was used to resettle the old market of Lembangan or jungle produce market (present site of Sibu Central Market), Channal Road Market (present site of Sibu Central Market), the old Market road Market, Sg. Bakong Market, Sukun Market , Palace theatre Car park Market and mobile street stalls hawkers of the khoo Peng Loong road (riverside) , side & backlanes in Central Town Areas. Most of the stalls at the ground floor are open stalls and the first floor is the Cooked Food & Drink Stall as well as the Merchandise Stalls.

This central market is so unique that it's a must visit place for tourist and understand that quite a few big brother local authorities from Sarawak as well as from peninsular states do visit this market on their study tour. Isn't that Sibu Boleh? There are a few items or produce which is not indigenous but it is well sort by visitors from outside. What are they?

They are the dried Shrimp and salted "turbok" fish. A kilo of the good dried shrimp might cost about Ringgit Malaysia Sixty (RM 60) over. A very good item for present to oversea friend.
